Legendary Status

Casey Stoner’s MotoGP™ career was defined by raw talent, fearless riding and an uncompromising racing style that made him one of the most respected riders of his generation.

The Australian made his debut in the premier class in 2006 and stunned the world just a year later by winning the 2007 World Championship with Ducati, delivering the Italian manufacturer its first-ever MotoGP™ title.

Known for his incredible ability to control a sliding bike, Stoner was especially dominant on difficult machinery, often extracting performance where others couldn’t. He later joined the factory Honda team and secured his second world title in 2011, cementing his legacy as a two-time MotoGP™ World Champion.

The 2011 Australian GP took place on 16th October at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Stoner was considered a hero at the track, not only for being a home crowd favourite but for winning consecutively there between 2007 – 2012. The 2011 race however was extra special, claiming the win meant that he was able to clinch the Championship – his second and final in MotoGP™.

His reign at the track was so prominent that Phillip Island’s turn 3 has been fondly known as Stoner Corner since – paying tribute to the rider’s exceptional style and victories.

The demanding left-hander corner saw Stoner’s talent shine, as he initiated a controlled rear-wheel slide upon entering. This allowed him to maintain speed and control through the turn.

Despite retiring young at just 27 in 2012, Stoner’s impact on the sport remains legendary, with many regarding him as one of the most naturally gifted riders to ever race in MotoGP™.
